SET THE CAPTIVES FREE DELIVERANCE MINISTRY
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon
me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to
the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to
preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight
to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to
preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19
(KJV)
Set the Captives Free Deliverance Ministry’s mission
is to identify life’s vices and heal through grace,
mercy and the Word of God.
This is an after-care program and is available to serve members
of the congregation as well as members of the general community.
The composition of the persons served include those in transition
facilities, on probation, in substance abuse programs, job
training programs and others who seek guidance in developing
meaningful relationships with spouses, other family members
and friends. Group as well as individual counseling is offered
at each session which is held each Monday from 7:00 –
8:30 p.m. at the Church.
Through an arrangement between First Baptist Church and the
Family Education Center of Metropolitan Washington, professional
counseling services are available. During the past year there
have been two licensed Christian counselors available at each
session to provide requested individual, couple and group
counseling. On occasion, there are three counselors available.
When requested, the Family Education Center of Metropolitan
Washington is available to conduct seminars and workshops
covering such areas as parenting, anger management, and building
relationships.
The Ministry continues to take on a limited referral role
for those persons who call and are in need of assistance securing
food, shelter or medical assistance. Where possible, these
individuals are referred to the appropriate governmental agencies.
The Ministry continues to provide limited follow-up services.
Periodic telephone calls are made and post cards are sent
to inquire about the welfare of participants who made themselves
available to use the services of this Ministry.
